This one comes all the way from Russia, bringing you dark vibes and Memphis inspired PHONK beats.
Shinigami Tenshi (literally translates to DEMON ANGEL in Japanese) seems to be an underrated producer from Russia, specializing in dark distorted trap beats similar to that of the early 90’s Memphis phonk style. I came upon this producer listening to a youtube livestream by Memphis 66.6.
With tracks like “IM SO HIGH“, “187“, “Blaze Shit feat. Kaneki サウンド “, and “RECORD IN STUDIO 1994 ” Shinigami Tenshi takes Memphis style and warps it, making it darker and more trance like at times with its tribal bass punches and fundamental yet unforgettable 808 drums. It’s no wonder he’s produced tracks for artists like $uicideboy$. While listening to some of his tracks I can’t help but feel like I’m in a black forest, mob-dancing with my faceless homies…but maybe that’s just me.
It certainly seems SHINIGAMI Tenshi has a bit of a following in Russia. His instagram has several posts of stage footage with various artists. The crowd is wild and they sing back every lyric in Russian. It’s a crazy sight to see but I have all the love for this type of music becoming a world wide phenomenon.
