REDDA – Keep Up ft. Dela (prod. Redda)
Showcasing an older track this weekend by producer Redda and rapper Dela. “Keep Up” brings the phonk early, dropping a heavy and steady bass line to set the tone. Just as you’re getting acquainted with the groove, Dela takes off in 2nd gear with a brazen flow that sobers the ears.
Dela’s energy is confident and strong, which plays well against his debased attitude. Imagine your brain is split between mob dancing and that introspective head bob we get with more “conscious” music.
I can’t get enough of stuff like this. Dela’s bars fly out just as fast as they came in, yet Redda seems to open up the beat in between verses (gotta let some of that “sauce” marinate in the brain). For instance, “I’m the nigga who got no bitches” is generally a debasing line you would expect to be delivered in more of a humble tone. Yet, Dela delivers with an almost cocky attitude which immediately captured my attention. Redda leaves no room for contemplation as Dela tackles his next few bars, ending the verse on “I need an enlightened one, so when I’m gone she gon’ bring me home.” You bring me that (and a solid hook reminiscent of SGP’s Mink Rug); I give you an AUX APPROVED stamp across the dome.
Redda is steadily becoming one of my top plays this fall. His SoundCloud has been active as far back as late 2016; since then, Redda’s sound has pivoted towards a lighter toned post-emo trap theme (whatever that means). Dela, on the other hand, truly flexed his skills as a rapper on “Keep Up“. Exploring his SoundCloud, I find a hopeless romantic with impressive soul sounds that come from the deep. It isn’t easy, but when artists like these come together and each give 110%, you get a gem that’s a cut above the rest. Be sure to keep up with Redda and Dela via Twitter.
