As we move into the cold seasons and close the year out, I wanted to expose you to an engineer that’s pushing boundaries in the CHOPPED n’ SCREWED world. Signed to Scum Tapes, 5002 Seven blesses this cruel world with some f*ck’d up mixes he calls “SLOWEDANDHYPED” aka SLORPED NOT DORPED.
5002 Seven not only plays around with various hip-hop tracks but also explores the drum and bass scene. He has worked heavily with MOM$ and AmoebaGod (also signed to Scum Tapes), creating tracks with irregular changes and effects. There is very little online about who Scum Tapes really is, and that, combined with the post-grunge meme visuals create an almost exclusive environment with gems scattered throughout.
Starting in early 2017, 5002 Seven released his first mix showcasing some popular hip-hop tracks from the past year. Some of the tracks are recognizable, but the less popular ones might as well be completely new tracks. For instance, Spacejam Bo – New Money (Ft. NBA Youngboy), was a new listen for me and after hearing the original…well lets just say I only listened once.
A healthy dose of anime samples and heavy reverb creates an unstable atmosphere that can be off putting to the faint of heart. Why do I constantly seek these kinds of sounds? Am I the crazy one? You decide…
