Showcasing an Atlanta native with this one. I’ve only recently discovered COMMAND, but he’s already proven to be a versatile artist with fresh sounds and unique techniques. I would consider COMMAND an alternative artist with influences from rock and hip-hop. Living in Atlanta this is understandable, given Atlanta’s long history in music and the arts.
A heavy bass line sets the tone for this track, with flutes and tambourines creating the backdrop. COMMAND’s tonality and pacing give the song a story like feel. . . . It is tough to explain the way he manipulates his voice. It”s a back and forth between full and partial singing that gives this track an unsettled and surreal setting. The melody is smooth and dark. I can imagine this track being performed live with the band’s dreamlike melody acting as a set for this wandering speaker. KABUKI REBEL is a fitting name for such a song. The melody stops and continues throughout leaving room for tone change and allowing the listener to soak in the obscure lyrics.
